By now, most have heard the Omaha Garden Cafe has permanently closed and is under construction. This had long been the place for Pachyderms to eat. John Sieler, the coordinator of the Greater Omaha Pachyderm luncheon, set out to find another place and contacted a long-time acquaintance and founder of Ahmad’s Persian Cuisine.
According to the review site Yelp, Ahmad's Persian Cuisine was founded in 1990 by Ahmad Nazar, a native Iranian who grew up cooking Persian food with his mother back in his homeland. He came to Omaha in the mid-70s (before the Iranian Revolution), and worked a series of odd jobs before settling down with his passion: cooking. Ahmad has run the restaurant with his family and a small staff of Omahans. Previously, the restaurant was in the Omaha Old Market district but today, it is located at 4646 Dodge Street.
( site: http://www.ahmadspersiancuisine.com ) I am certain he and his patrons miss the Old Market but the new place is nice.
The grilled chicken with rice, grilled tomato, salad, and banana slices as well as hot sweet tea was all very good. Chocolate candy was also provided. The food was so good, every plate I saw went back empty to the kitchen! The decor was nice as well, from table coverings, art, and the dishes themselves: all echoing ancient Persia. Mr. Nazar is also a gracious host and server and opened up his place when usually it is closed on Mondays. You can see photos of the food and place on Yelp and Tripadvisor. My only concern is the limited parking. I think most people can handle parking half a block away as the neighborhood is safe. However, if you want to avoid making a trek, you might want your driver to drop you off at the door before parking.
