Of all the inventions forgotten, the creation of the telegraph is perhaps the most forgotten (https://www.history.com/topics/inventions/telegraph). This allowed information to be sent around the world in a matter of minutes instead of weeks and months. The efforts to obtain information quickly and affordably led to the Associated Press (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associated_Press) best known as the AP.
However, in the internet age and smartphones, the ability for anyone and anywhere to go to primary sources makes investigation and writing easy for those wanting to do the real work. For the newspapers, this has been a disaster. Instead of investing in local reporting, they cut the newsrooms and kept on printing cheap AP news copy which everyone already has access to.
Call it “corporate media”, “legacy media”, “drive-by media”, “mockingbird media”, “Google News” or whatever, it is all AP-style news services being regurgitated with little to no challenge or fact-checking or divergent viewpoints, and no means to counter it directly. These forms of media are so invested in what they are doing, they ban and block challenges. This is why Vivek Ramaswamy keeps challenging the media (https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2024/01/10/watch-vivek-puts-media-on-the-spot-with-amazing-questions-their-response-should-concern-us-all-n2168563).
But so many people just go to “Google News” or “NBC” not realizing it is just regurgitating a narrative made by AP style reporting or other such news associations. Older generations cannot believe their favorite news source is feeding false information. Many of the younger generations think the news on their smartphone is fair and Facebook is right. There is a way to counter this but it won't be done by radio. There are news apps which give a broader view of the world and many of them you can apply to your smart TV. You can help in getting more people on these apps.
Yes, you probably have the Omaha World-Herald, WOWT, and I-Heart-Radio apps, but this is mostly local news. Also, there are some great local podcasts such as Todd Watson of the Nebraska Republican Party (https://soundcloud.com/nebraska-republican-party) and there are those KFAB podcasts like this one (https://www.iheart.com/podcast/960-jim-rose-28634386/episode/taxes-and-how-they-work-142090242/).
However, there are many apps which provide world and national news and most of these are free or have a free version. Others require a subscription. If the links provided below do not match to your device, you can do an internet search for a compatible download.
