By now, you may have seen this garbage poll claiming Tony Vargas is ahead of Congressman Don Bacon in the Congressional race (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/08/02/vargas-leads-bacon-in-latest-polling-showing-tight-race-in-ne-02/).
This poll is completely idiotic. Compared to most congressional races, this race in Nebraska in the second Congressional district will be “close” in comparison, but this poll has an absurd error margin of over 4 percent, which makes it worthless. Bacon will likely win by 50.5 to 49.5 easily. How wide the gap is up to him.
Bacon takes pride in posting this image:
I must ask, to what audience is he appealing to? Obviously, to moderates and lobbyists who want favorable subsidies and regulations on their businesses which alienates the middle class and blue-collar workers. The true conservatives obstruct bad legislation and Congressman Bacon never mentions obstructing bad legislation. This is why many are upset with Bacon on one level or another.
If you are going to defend freedom and reduce government expenditures, what votes count are those votes obstructing bad legislation. Yet, Bacon simply is too comfortable with the lobbying class. (Photo credit below to Matt Johnson!)
What could Bacon do differently as far as his campaign? He should show up at local gun ranges, and show off his abilities with a gun, and talk about Ukraine, Hamas, and Taiwan. Vargas has no military experience and no appeal to gun owners. In such avenues, people would appreciate Bacon’s military experience, and at the same time, Bacon would encounter his own prejudices and realize how diverse the gun enthusiast community actually is. He really needs to engage a different audience and he is failing to do so. He could win by a wide margin, but his current actions prevent him from doing so. Statements of support for gun rights simply do not mean as much as showing up and competing with another guy with the same gun as you and doing target practice. Will Don Bacon do this?
