One serious problem with having Black-minority districts is once racism subsides, the elected leaders of such districts are taken as representative of most or all Black people when clearly they do not. At the same time, far-left progressives take over local politics.
State Senators Terrell McKinney and Justin Wayne exemplify the problem as they try to balance out agendas and apparently get lost in the process. McKinney has a particularly hard time with economic issues. He pushed progressive campaigns such as raising minimum wage. This increase closed down one of my local grocery stores, as did previous increases in the minimum.
With LB 754, which cuts the income tax to 3.99 percent, both senators went awol and voted “present, but not voting”. Considering how low the tax brackets go, nearly all Nebraskans pay the top rate at least partially, so most everyone benefits from the tax cut. I am certain most Black people favor income tax cuts but you would never know by how these senators voted.
I was stunned to hear condemnation from these Senators about “zero-sum” politics when they appear to have no problem with it in economics (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2023/03/31/nebraska-lawmakers-criticize-zero-sum-games-in-legislature-lack-of-support-for-north-omaha/). Where did they become so lost? Why are they actually enabling the conflict? They failed to vote for LB 754 when they should have. Instead, they sided with the far-left Senators (https://nebraskalegislature.gov/bills/view_bill.php?DocumentID=50792). This appears to be their attempt to side with senators supporting “gender-affirming care” who are the ones stalling the whole legislative process down with filibusters, petitions, and amendments.
“Gender-affirming care” is nothing but self-mutilation but these two senators appear to be lost on the topic. The purpose of Black or gay pride was about self-acceptance, not self-destruction. If Black people copied what the gender-dysphoria people are demanding, they would be screaming in the streets, “bleaching is healthcare” and “racial-affirming care now”. And to get Whites to buy into it, they would promote free tanning salons for White people to make them “less White”. Hey, the racial equity people will love it!
For those who have no idea what I am talking about, there was a time when Black people would subject themselves to bleaching their skin to be white, or at least less Black (https://theconversation.com/black-americas-bleaching-syndrome-82200). The results could be disastrous and were a manifestation of self-hatred. The practice has been condemned in the United States. However, the practice is fairly common in other parts of the world, particularly in Asian countries.
Gender dysphoria and gender surgeries are not about pride or the lack of it but an attempt to use the body as a mere costume while ignoring what chromosomes say. The problem is the result of an over-obsession with gender and gender roles. I suppose the far left religious groups supporting these gender operations will cite Matthew 5:30 for justification “And if your right-hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell” but no thought are given to what they are enabling.
Yes, parents love their children, but if your child is an alcoholic, do you bring them more beer? Of course not. But, if your minor child thinks they are a different gender, are you going to embrace chemicals and surgery with the hope of making your child happy?
However, as to the conflict, all the concerns of abortion advocates, and gender activists are already being addressed: by Federalism. Why would you want Nebraska to engage in such specialized services when the best specialists for these treatments do not even reside in Nebraska? Other states have these services, so why not go there?
