Listening, reading, and watching the media as to what happened at the Nebraska Republican Party Convention in Kearney has left me very frustrated. I listened to radio interviews of Matt Innis and Eric Underwood and became more agitated. Are we really blind to what happened and why?
Why did the Credentials Committee think it was wise to reject six people and what was the real reasoning and push for such rejections? Did it even follow Republican Party rules?
In addition, with the ousting of Dan Welch, why did these other NEGOP representatives decide it was necessary to resign their positions?
Stuff like this leaves me wondering.
The Nebraskan Republican Party still has a problem admitting the majority of voters did not vote for Jim Pillen for Governor and did not vote for Bob Evnen for Secretary of State. Both of these candidates need to do significant outreach to Republicans. Why is this so difficult to understand? Why do ten people have to resign instead of staying at their posts and directing the candidates to the obvious fact of appealing to more people?
Some blame Ricketts. Sure, Ricketts probably should have done less in pushing marginal candidates and focused on Republican outreach. However, outreach is the responsibility of the candidate. Pillen and Evnen are weak and people sense it.
The event has garnered national attention, including among my readers. For this reason, I post the many links of interviews and opinions below. However, I think such perspectives are still off the mark. Those who think Ricketts has been a great governor often look at Jim Pillen and think “he ain’t no Pete Ricketts”.
I think Jim Rose’s comments are far more on the mark compared to others, but I still think there is a huge undertow which evades Republican Party radars. Evnen spent so much time debunking election fraud issues but never provided any comfort regarding drop boxes. Wisconsin Supreme Court outlawed drop boxes (https://www.wpr.org/wisconsin-supreme-court-rules-absentee-ballot-drop-boxes-are-illegal-wisconsin) but Omaha still has them (https://www.votedouglascounty.com/early_voting.aspx).
