This week is filled with lots of local-related news. Omaha and Lincoln had pro-Palestine protests (https://www.wowt.com/2023/10/13/dozens-hold-pro-palestinian-demonstration-omaha/). There have been demonstrations like these across the country including colleges and universities. This is where former US Senator Ben Sasse made state defending Israel as well as free speech (https://www.louderwithcrowder.com/benn-sasse-statement-on-israel).
At the same time, Omaha City Council President Pete Festersen is proposing new absurd municipal gun restrictions (https://www.3newsnow.com/news/local-news/nebraska-gunowners-group-assessing-legal-options-after-executive-orders-omaha-proposals) in spite of the new Nebraska law on Constitutional Carry.
However, the biggest news is political consultant Dick Morris openly targeting US Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska over the House Speaker election (https://www.dickmorris.com/urgent-call-or-write-the-five-house-republicans-holding-out-against-jim-jordan-lunch-alert/ and https://www.dickmorris.com/elect-jim-jordan-speaker/). Morris is supporting Jim Jordan for House Speaker and is telling people to contact Bacon and push him to vote for Jordan. Yet, Bacon seems so injured by McCarthy being deposed, he appears to be acting out of revenge instead of accepting the fact: McCarthy was a victim of his own lack of negotiating skills.
McCarthy is good at helping candidates raise fund which appears to be why Bacon likes and supports McCarthy as do many Republicans, but his lack of negotiating skills doomed him. He is merely capable of soliciting from special interest groups instead of confronting groups with conflicting ideas. I am hoping Bacon is merely voting for McCarthy on this first Jordan vote out of symbolism and will eventually vote for Jordan, but I doubt it. This is why Dick Morris lists other congressmen in directing people to call in support of Jordan.
As for the Democrats, they are taking a serious risk in merely blocking the vote for speaker. Why are they showing up to vote? Do they really think they can elect a Democrat for speaker? No, they are blocking Republicans from legislating anything and forcing them into conflict. I think they should have let McCarthy ride on in, but now they may end up with a more formidable House Speaker. Perhaps this is just a strategy so they can make a supposedly stronger case to vote against Republicans in the 2024 election.
Will it work? Well, call Bacon and ask him if he is proof Republicans cannot govern. Democrats will most definitely be stating Republicans cannot govern as they have done in past elections.
We need a strong Conservative to represent our District in US Congress. Not an anti Israel pro Hamas Democrat who runs for office with a R next to his name. He wants to keep giving the Pentagon blank checks so they can spend money buying dresses for thier Transgender recruits
