You have heard the arguments before of “separation of church and state” and perhaps you have argued over the matter. When creating a Federal government, the States wanted broad limitations on the Federal Government, hence the idea of “separation”. What the terms means will often be debated, but the words refer to the institutional power of the Federal government and the institution powers of Houses of Worship. The Fourteenth Amendment applied these standards to the States.
But what of religion? This is where the division erodes. The United States Postal Service actually sells Christmas stamps (https://store.usps.com/store/product/christmas-madonna-and-child-stamps-S_685104).
At the same time, Christmas is recognized as a national holiday in the United States. Is this the Federal government surrendering to churches? To religion? Or to mere cultural practices?
To add to the complexity, the United States has the Washington National Cathedral (https://cathedral.org/). Veterans of the Revoluationary War, George Washington and Pierre Charles L'Enfant (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Charles_L'Enfant and https://cathedral.org/discover/history).
Here is the reality: religion is central to good civic order and responsibility. Thomas Jefferson knew so and wrote the Jefferson Bible (https://americanhistory.si.edu/jeffersonbible/). Adam Smith wrote the Wealth of Nations, but he also wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Argue and complain about capitalism all you want, but it works with proper doses of religion.
Yet, many Christians will refuse to vote or will not vote early as it seems too worldly, and prefer to separate themselves from the world, but full separation is an impossibility in this life. You can try your best to avoid politics, but politics has an interest you.
This is why, on election day, the Washington National Cathedral will hold a prayer vigil and you can participate online (https://cathedral.org/worship/election/). Perhaps prayer seems too quaint, but with new evidence of election fraud (https://x.com/TrueTheVote/status/1849635139065680004) and leftists of falsley accusing Trump of being Hitler (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/the-worst-thing-ive-ever-heard-holocaust-survivor-blasts-harris-comparing-trump-hitler ) and concerns about the results being challenged, prayer would be helpful, but voting is just as important.
"Attempts to formulate a "perfect society" on any foundation other than "Women and children first!" is not only witless, it is automatically genocidal." -Robert Heinlein
There is a clear difference in our politics. The party of death, of crime, of chaos must be defeated. Those who fail to stand up to evil tolerate it and condone it. They become allies. They doom generations to come. Individually, we may not be an important part of God's plan, but what if our progeny are? What if the people around us who are shaped by us are? Building and maintaining a just an good society are our responsibility. Abandoning this world to evil isn't holy.
To the people that would vote against 434, what happens if it loses and 439 wins? Can you live with that? I would rather see forward progress in limiting and then abolishing abortion. Taking the left's model, let's start with "common sense restrictions on abortion" and move toward the right direction.
