Douglas County Commissioner Maureen Boyle has been pushing abortion advocacy (https://omaha.com/news/local/nebraska-doctors-group-supports-preserving-reproductive-rights/article_4f07e070-2314-11ed-adb2-57c1de20bcbd.html).
I doubt, like many doctors, she does not understand the consequences of her advocacy.
Many people, who are upset about Roe v Wade being overturned, have information which is basically 50 years out of date. The average person today has more information and resources than any other generation in human history in how to prevent pregnancy, yet abortion is still used by many as the only birth control measure (see page 7 https://dhhs.ne.gov/Abortion%20Reports/2021%20Statistical%20Report%20of%20Abortions.pdf). Getting rid of Roe, at least made vasectomies a popular option (https://theconversation.com/500k-american-men-get-vasectomies-every-year-a-specialist-explains-the-easy-and-reversible-procedure-186984).
At the same time, the advances in healthcare allow surgery to be performed on prenatal infants before they are born for such conditions as spina-bifada (https://www.chop.edu/treatments/fetal-surgery-spina-bifida/about and https://thefederalist.com/2022/08/01/medical-care-for-the-teeniest-patients-keeps-getting-better-despite-the-lefts-abortion-obsession/ and https://www.justthefacts.org/samuel-armas/). Also, parents no longer need to wait for birth to decide on pink or blue walls for their little one (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_reveal_party). At the same time, having an abortion because the fetus has an undesired gender does happen.
Ultrasound pictures of babies are easily found on Facebook and can be sent to your phone. Women can give birth by cesarean section multiple times and live to celebrate their children (https://www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/how-many-c-sections-can-you-have#safety-concerns).
All of these advances were knocking at the idiocy of Roe. When Justice Blackman wrote his dogma into Roe, he took back-alley butchers and made them front street profiteers with no regard to consequences and with only the most marginal Constitutional rationale. Fortunately, his doctrine has ended. Scream in favor of abortion all you want to, but you sound like a small child screaming in favor of a right to be sexually molested. Abortion was, is, and always will be about exploitation whether it is legal or not.
Many want to dismiss what I say as rhetoric but abortion exists largely as the only birth control used by many women. If pregnancy prevention was taken seriously, there would be few abortionists, and those wanting an abortion would have to travel far to find one. Right now, many legislative candidates for the Unicameral as well as current Senators, are trying to take a more nuanced position on abortion. However, Nebraska could and should abolish abortion with the exception to protect the life of the mother, and it would have little impact.
You can scream about rape and incest all you want, but abortion is provided in border states like Kansas and Colorado, a car drive away. Others will complain about women having to travel to get an abortion, but women in Lancaster County have always had to go at least a one-hour drive to find an abortionist, but that may have changed. In fact, traveling for special medical procedures is fairly common throughout the United States. The question is not whether or not abortion should be legal, but whether or not it should be legal in Nebraska. You can see just how many abortionists are in your area by going to https://www.abortionfinder.org . You will notice, Planned Parenthood, which provides planned barrenhood is prominently featured. They don’t need to have a shop in Nebraska.
Yet, abortion-on-demand advocates want no restrictions whatsoever on abortion. None. They do not even want reporting requirements. States like California, New York, and New Jersey do not record abortions. How do they know if people are having abortions due to the “wrong” gender? They don’t. The advocates oppose the most modest restrictions. You can click about at https://reproductiverights.org/maps/abortion-laws-by-state/ and you can see what I mean.
