A fiery exchange on X social media (formerly Twitter) has taken place between the outspoken Nebraska Freedom Coalition (https://twitter.com/NebraskaFreedom) and Nebraska Young Republicans (https://twitter.com/NebraskaYR) in regards to Congressman Don Bacon’s upcoming election.
Nebraska Young Republicans are understandably upset but should proudly continue with their work. However, the Nebraska Freedom Coalition was right to challenge the claim of Bacon’s district being purple. Omaha is purple, and Douglas County is but not the Second Congressional district where Republicans hold a majority.
The problem here is the Congressional district has over 100,000 nonpartisan registered voters. I have tried repeatedly to encourage Republican candidates and Republican organizations to do some effort to encourage people to register as Republican. In part, Republican individuals should make an effort merely to invite others to Republican events to learn what Republicans actually are. Now, it will likely cost Bacon the next election as conservative Republicans will abandon him.
The Republican Party should at least send out 250 postal cards a month to some select nonpartisans and inform them of some recent events and encourage them to change their registration to Republican. No such efforts are done as such efforts are viewed as futile or lacking in return but to not do it, results in an erosion of registered Republicans. At the very least, Bacon has supported the Republican Party to expand such as Saunders County but such growth may come back to bite him.
With the recent House Speaker vote, Bacon is now way out of bounds. Apparently, he has been kept in the dark about what has been happening among the grassroots. Conservative Brandon Straka of the Walkaway Campaign is from Omaha and was charged over the January 6 Capital mayhem. Scott Voorhees of KFAB has interviewed him several times. Stu Dornan, who ran for Nebraska Unicameral, was Straka’s lawyer (https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/case-multi-defendant/file/1441141/download). This information never came to the public’s attention. This is proof: much of the news media is inept and plays into the propaganda of MAGA Republicans being a foreign entity. Bacon never seemed to understand the forces undermining the establishment parties. Straka continues to encourage people to walk away from the Democrat Party, a party which abandoned blue-collar workers.
I simply cannot vote for Don Bacon because he has no appreciable skills of negotiation or a broad understanding of economics. I have supported and will continue to support Club For Growth candidates because they are right about economics, a topic which is hard for politicians to master. Congressman Jim Jordan understands economics and scores well with the Club and Bacon does not (https://www.clubforgrowth.org/scorecards/). Sadly, Bacon has allowed a handful of votes to be consequential because of his opposition, instead of understanding the merits of the issues. Bacon does not even score well among his Nebraska congressional colleagues.
To add to these problems, the 2020 election was a disaster. I am easily infuriated over claims of an “insurrection” and accusations of being an “election denier”. Dinesh D’Souza does great research on the topics but he is often castigated. Now he has a new documentary on the Police State at https://rumble.com/v3rodbv-police-state-a-film-by-dinesh-dsouza.html .
Whether the issue is economics, the 2020 election or the police state, Bacon does not bring much to the table anymore.
My friends who live in Omaha agree with you: Bacon needs to be replaced. The fact that he doesn't even begin to understand why just underscores that sad reality.
