UPDATE: More join the chorus against McCarthy. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/conservative-heavyweights-call-new-house-gop-leadership-mccarthy-failed-clinch-house-speaker
I understand many Republicans are upset about the House Speaker position being held up. I have had numerous confrontations over the issue. However, too many Republican officials just want to go through the motions of being conservative or appearing conservative when they are not, and gain the support they do not deserve.
Realistically, Congressman Bacon has created the same problem former Congressman Lee Terry did years back and more or less Congressman Fortenberry did when he resigned.
At the Federal level, whether Republican or Democrat, politicians vote and support more taxing, borrowing and spending no matter how stupid, idiotic or unnecessary such spending is. They receive broad support from special interest groups and well-connected friends. If you catch them red-handed, they just blame the other party. Bacon is part of such structure and proves it by being part of the Main Street Caucus. They want you to think they want less spending but realistically, they just want more spending on projects which favor their friends.
Bacon has made a point of saying he will walk across the aisle and be bipartisan but with his support for McCarthy, he is failing to do so. Democrat Congressman Jeffries will never be speaker, so why not convince a couple of dozen of Democrats to merely vote “present” which would reduce the threshold to become speaker of the House? Perhaps some Democrats would like some concessions as well. Might happen but definitely won’t happen with Bacon’s current approach of attacking the 20 conservatives objecting to McCarthy.
Here is another deep secret. McCarthy lacks broad support among Republican congressmen but receives it because Republicans are trying to block Jeffries from accidentally becoming speaker. I assure you, the objections to McCarthy as speaker is probably more likely 100 to 110 members of Congress, but we will likely never know. No one has factored this into their thinking. The public supports McCarthy even less .
As for Bacon, he is either horrifically inept or is just flat-out lying about the situation. The opposition to McCarthy is far deeper than the public is led to believe which is why Democrats are trying to stay in lockstep with Jeffries.
Bacon is very disappointing and we were warned about the first term he ran.
