Putting Douglas County Republicans in Office

At this time of year, many forget the most simple parts of basic civic lessons. This is a good time to talk to your neighbors, friends and co-workers and ask them what motivates them and if they are registered to vote and encourage them to register Republican and be ready to vote.

Lots of people change residency and forget to update their voter registration. There are a lot of conservatives registered as non-partisan who need to understand the advantages of a political party. Some people simply are not registered due to past events in their life.

While Nebraska’s Unicameral is non-partisan, the political parties are convenient in helping in understanding where candidates stand on many issues. Below, thanks to our local County Republican party, I provide a list of our local Republicans running for the Unicameral. I am particularly excited about Marilyn Asher, Christian Merch and Kathleen Kauth.

Fostering Republicans and conservatives to the Unicameral is very important. There are numerous other ways to help. Get on the candidates’ email list. Write a letter to the editor and post on social media why you support a candidate. Call in to your favorite radio show.

Also, are you having a meeting with friends or neighbors such as a barbecue? Good time to invite a candidate to come and speak to your group. Candidates love to be able to share their ideas with people. At the same time, listeners gain a new appreciation for a candidate without the standard media filters.

Also, giving $15 to $20 bucks to a candidate, particularly early in the election cycle, can be very helpful to the candidate. You can give to candidates outside your district and it is a great way to support candidates you like.

Yes, yard signs help. I know a lot of consultants such as with the Don Bacon campaign or the political consultants at Chase Marketing will probably say yard signs don’t do much. However, there are numerous variables on this matter. Often, the signs are helpful to merely inform people an election is coming and encourage voter turnout. Signs also provide name recognition. In addition, depending on who puts up a yard sign, people get a sense of what type of person a candidate appeals to.
