Update: Regarding Kathy Holkeboer, she is the Executive Director of Voter Information Project (https://www.voterinformation.org/). She provided a link to the candidate responses of Tim Carter and Aimee Melton which you can see here https://www.voterinformation.org/races/cities-2025/omaha-city-council-district-7-c25/ There is so much material on Carter’s insanity on display. By the way, does anyone remember when gays were GLB instead a fifth of the alphabet?
A lot times, people say character matters, but so does talent, and sense of decorum. Trump can be outlandish but it is his trademark of negotiating, and pushing his opponents to the fringe. Trump has mastered complexity of national politics.
Yet, with local politics, things are not as complex. People tend to know each other or people who know the candidate. As a candidate, you talk about your experience and what you want to do. This should be done with the most sincere politeness. You want to make certain parents, and the clergy would be happy to at least hear you out, and not dismiss you as an angry old man.
In enters Tim Carter, a Democrat, running against the current City Council member, Aimee Melton, a Republican. Carter cannot resist his progressive policies. Fine, but you would think he would avoid profanity, but nope. At the Hands Off rally in Omaha, at Memorial Part on April 5, he let loose on all he disagreed with. See for yourself.
At the same time, John Ewing, a Democrat, is running for Mayor against Jean Stothert, a Republican. You would think Ewing would do his best to distance himself from the radical progressives such as Carter, but Ewing has no idea how politics works, let alone City government. He appears to be running a stealth campaign or perhaps Ewing has not been around the progressive Democrats enough to see what they are about. Yet, he supported red-light cameras when in debate proving he wants to expand government.
So if you are still sitting on the fence about this upcoming election day, Tuesday, May 13th, please reconsider and go out and vote for the Republicans. If you have already voted or will be voting, please share this post with as many people as possible. They need to know the Progressive Democrats are on the march.
Neither mayor candidate answered but both Carter and Melton revealed their thinking at https://www.voterinformation.org/races/cities-2025/omaha-city-council-district-7-c25/
