House Speaker Mike Johnson has barely had enough time to let his hair dry and he is already under attack. Here is what people are missing.
Kevin McCarthy has never been popular with the Republican Party and probably contributed to Republicans failing to gain seats in the House in the 2020 to 2022 election cycles. The Freedom Caucus has always taken issue with him. People, like Congressman Bacon, have basically referred to the Freedom Caucus as “anarchists”. Perhaps to some degree, he is right, but Bacon has been way too dismissive of McCarthy’s critics and the illegitimate procedures which surrounds him.
The Freedom Caucus at least wants regular procedures and issues voted on, but the approach from the McCarthy-types was to avoid having votes on certain issues out of fear of members actually having to vote on substantive issues. This is how Congress got stuck on Omnibus bills and Continuing Resolutions with no time to read them which is bankrupting the USA.
Politically, decapitating McCarthy was not enough. Johnson now has to deal with a lot of Republican Congressmen who did not back him such as Congressman Don Bacon. Yet, now there is an effort to preserve the Republican majority so suddenly everyone is kissing and making up. Johnson is headed to Nebraska to help Bacon, and former Republican candidate Steve Kuehl has endorsed Bacon.
But Bacon has too many problems. His strategy is myopic. He sides with his favorite factions and despises those who are not part of such factions which splits the party. Sorry, Kuehl ain’t cool with me on this matter. Instead of red-meat rhetoric, how about delivering red-meat results? Bacon has probably lost 7 to 10 thousand votes from the Republican column merely for his take on McCarthy. He has a lot of “bridges” to repair in the months ahead if he is to be re-elected. I suppose Kuehl was given one of those cheap flags flown over the Capital for endorsing Bacon (https://bacon.house.gov/services/flags.htm). I still have to wonder, are these flags made in the USA?
Republicans have this fear if they deliver conservative results, they will be pushed out of office by a hate-filled media. This is not true. The problem Republicans face is they need to find the accessible conservative issues and actually support such issues when they can instead of dismissing such ideas as too inconvenient. Good example is the pathetic FISA vote:
Congressman Bacon will likely be primaried. There are those who say Bacon will lose in the general if primaried at all. I disagree. Primary challengers allow for a broader discussion of issues and put the incumbent on notice of the need to defend their own thoughts.
If Bacon, who defends Israel and rightly attacks antisemitism, would come to the defense of the Reconciliation Monument made by Jewish artist Moses Ezekiel, perhaps I would give Bacon a second chance. Don’t know what this monument is? Well, see this link https://www.sshfl.org/post/press-release-ssh-opposes-army-arlington-memorial-removal Is it too much to ask a monument, which stands in the middle of a cemetary, to be left alone?
I am not inclined to support Bacon but if you do, you need to hedge your bet and support the Freedom Caucus candidates, particularly Lauren Boebert. See this link for candidates to consider:
Donnie should read the constitution and then his oath. He's an authoritarian, or if I were to look at his record has a human ownership mentality. His vote on these violations of the 4th and 5th shows either a lack of comprehensive skills when reading or or a I your face screw the constitution. Either way he needs to go
