Garbage Predictions Already?
Will Corporate Media Learn?
The Omaha World-Herald just put out a story from an organization called “Split Ticket”, a newcomer to polling using modeling to make predictions (https://omaha.com/news/state-regional/government-politics/article_cd3701d0-c279-441f-b14e-0bf29a2b722c.html). The model predicts Republican Pete Ricketts will win the US Senate race and Democrat Denise Powell will win Congressional District 2 race. Yet, I already know the failures of such modeling, and they fail often. Part of the failure is voters can be very fickle and easily misled, as well as just change their minds or stay home. A strong focus on getting the right voters to the polls can throw an election.
However, political analysts love these surveys to convince candidates to spend and raise more money. To add, these models and polling data come right after the gas has spiked from the Iran war, when people are more likely to express dissatisfaction. But already, the price of gas is going down. This causes concern as to who funded such data and why, but no one asks that.
People focus on the money, but this can also be a distraction. One political action committee stated 90 percent of its endorsed candidates were elected. But there is just one problem. Those 90 percent of candidates who won were not even in a seriously contested race. Their operation amounted to a scam. Know this, a well functioning organization is more important than money in running a candidate. This is why I stick with organizations proven to change the projectory of a political race such as Club for Growth (https://www.clubforgrowth.org/) and Senate Conservatives Fund (https://www.senateconservatives.com/).
This poll seems to suggest you can vote for Democrat Powell and Republican Ricketts with comfort, but this type of split ticketing so happens to be the name of the organization Split Ticket, which makes the whole thing sound sketchy to me. Also, when you look at the partisan voter registration, I am struggling to figure out how the organization came to a 12-point lead for Powell (https://sos.nebraska.gov/elections/voter-registration-statistics). This causes me to suspect the model was commissioned by the Powell campaign or a close associate thereof. However, without knowing who commissioned such polls, I recommend you give to both Republican candidates. Links below:
