The progress of communication technology over the last 15 years has been breathtaking as millions of people have smartphones connecting them to a much broader world and exposing them to technology as never before.
The conflicts and flaws of social media are starting to resolve, in part, due to competition but also because of Elon Musk is bringing about innovation. Many still avoid social media, but X has eliminated so many problems with social media and is set to be king of all media.
Tucker Carlson moved on to X and broadcasts regularly there but how many are accessing his show? Well is is enough of a success to create the Tucker Carlson Network (https://tuckercarlson.com/).
Rumble has taken some of the traffic from the censorship Youtube. Stephen Crowder runs his operation through there (https://www.louderwithcrowder.com). Gavin McInnis has been on his own site for sometime (https://censored.tv/) Tim Pool created TimCast.com. David Rubin started up Locals.com for creators (https://locals.com/). Also, everyone knows about the Dailywire.com with Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens. But these tend to be more about commentary and are not always thoughtful, freewheeling discussion. Yes, the interviews are nice but these are often one-on-one and merely reflect some level of monologue.
As for social media, conservatives did flock to Telegram, Gab, MeWe, and Truth Social to avoid the antics of the likes of Facebook, from censorship to blocking and bullying. But all of this caused many people to just drop out of social media altogether. Too much trouble for an individual to mess around with.
Now X is changing the game and has added enhancements. The Community Notes feature provides people with what others dispute about a post instead of the attack- and-ban approach. Also, the live streaming of events has become an improved feature of discussion groups. The X Spaces feature (https://help.twitter.com/en/using-x/spaces) allows for incredible interviews with a wide group of people. Will this put an end to idiotic Zoom meetings?
Elon Musk unbanned Alex Jones account and a whole discussion ensued (https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2023/12/10/elon-musk-celebrates-alex-jones-in-x-chat-joined-by-controversial-figures-andrew-tate-mike-flynn-more/) You can actually hear the full discussion at https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1734082144178163893 This is the power of X and the vast majority of the legacy media largely missed out on it.
X is going to be the world’s town hall. The information and ability for people to discuss and dispute claims instead of hearing monologues is great. Now is the time to get X and start figuring out how to use it in your own organizations to engage the public. X will be the to-go app for politics in the years ahead.
