I am still trying to figure out why a few handful of people are supporting Christy Armendariz in Legislature District 18. If you look at her website, there are no issues listed and no endorsements: https://www.christyforne.com/ The people supporting her appear to be close friends who have little understanding of politics or what has transitioned over the last five years.
The World Herald quoted Armendariz and wrote (my emphasis added);
“Her campaign was endorsed by Nebraskans Against Government Overreach, a group that has advocated against COVID-19 restrictions. It has also shared conspiracy theories about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and promoted a group espousing the 2020 election in Nebraska was fraudulent. Armendariz said the group contacted her and asked to do an endorsement interview, which she participated in. She said she has never looked into the group and was unaware of its positions. “My campaign will not be run on polarized issues,” she said. “We’re going to get down to things that advance us as Nebraskans.”
Yes, all the talk about conspiracy theories goes too far. Want to talk about 2016 election conspiracy theories put forth by Hillary Clinton? Anyways.....
Sorry, but masks have always been an ugly polarizing issue. Nebraskans Against Government Overreach (NAGO) knows this, so why support Armendariz who won’t take a stand on anything polarizing? Why is Armendariz in this race at all when silent on masks? She certainly is not proud to have the NAGO endorsement or why to have pride in such an endorsement. The endorsement is not mentioned on her website.
NAGO can do a lot of good but the lack of focus hurts the organization. When Dr Huse imposed her mask edict on Omaha, I was one of 3 people who told Douglas County Commissioners what a mistake the edict was. NAGO was not there. Also, there are many people running for school boards who supported mask mandates. I expected NAGO to make an enemy list out of them and force such board members to apologize for the mask mandates or drop out of office. This did not happen but still needs to happen.
But what burns me most is the discord. Council member Aimee Melton has been the best defender of individual liberty during this whole pandemic and has endorsed Clarice Jackson for legislature because Jackson knows what kids need. Yet, NAGO claims to know better and endorses Armendariz who does not acknowledge the NAGO endorsement on her website. Melton knows what she is doing on this matter. She spent money suing Dr. Huse and helped formulate change to the City ordinance on the health director. Right now, Armendariz is running a stealth campaign with no clear agenda at all.
Finally, yes, NAGO can make a point about Congressman Don Bacon and Secretary of State Bob Evnen. Yet, their opponents such as Steve Kuehl (https://www.stevekuehl.com) and Robert Borer (https://www.robertjborer.com/) clearly list why they are running, but Armendariz does not. NAGO could call out candidates to be more clear on their issues, but it will first have to start with Armendariz. Calling people RINO is cheap but often worthless.
