The local news media is spiraling around a tweet on Twitter put out by the
Nebraska Republican Party (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2022/08/20/nebraska-gop-posted-explicit-images-of-youth-sex-acts-from-graphic-novel). I fail to understand why this Twitter flack was newsworthy compared to other political news.
Apparently, Jane Kleeb, chair of the Nebraska Democrat Party has nothing better to do but rag on Republicans while her Party continues to fail. There are five statewide offices up for election (https://sos.nebraska.gov/sites/sos.nebraska.gov/files/doc/elections/2022/2022%20Elected%20Offices%20and%20Maps.pdf): Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Auditor of Public Accounts, Secretary of State, and Attorney General, yet the Democrat Party has only two candidates running for statewide office (https://nebraskademocrats.org/2022-democratic-candidates/).
In fact, the Libertarian Party has more candidates than the Democrats running for Statewide office (https://lpne.org/civicrm/profile/?reset=1&force=1&search=0&gid=46&state_province-Primary=1026). The Nebraska Legal Marijuana Now Party has just as many statewide candidates as the Democrats (https://nebraskademocrats.org/2022-democratic-candidates/). All of this is verifiable on the Secretary of State's website (https://sos.nebraska.gov/sites/sos.nebraska.gov/files/doc/elections/2022/Statewide-Candidate-List.pdf)
Of course, the Libertarians have slightly different objectives with candidates as they seek to maintain ballot status but they did not run anyone for Secretary of State, and neither did the Democrats or Legal Marijuana Now Party. The Democrats have plenty of candidates running for local government and regional governments but their power as a State Party has been diminished. This will likely diminish voter turnout for Democrats resulting in losing down-ballot races or reducing some of the force of Democrats. With the Democrat party being weak, Republicans must continue to fund their candidates and run more candidates for more offices.
Perhaps the current situation is all a fluke of this election cycle but Kleeb is constantly exposing herself as a radical (https://www.spreaker.com/user/9808558/jane-kleeb-chair-of-nebraska-democratic- and https://inthesetimes.com/article/jane-kleeb-rural-urban-divide-democratic-unity-climate-change-bold-nebraska). People do not want to be part of a radical party, let alone run as a radical candidate. For years, the Democrats talked about how Trump stole the 2016 election as Kleeb believes, but they did not put up a candidate for Secretary of State which just has me wondering, what were they thinking of?
