“On April 20, 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed that May would be Jewish American Heritage Month“ (https://www.jewishheritagemonth.gov/About.html).
Yet, how much have you heard about it from your company or mainstream media or local radio host? Probably not much. Your company email account was probably jammed with Black History Month emails but likely none about Jewish American Heritage Month.
Welcome to the new racism. Oh, they will talk about “Hispanics” without the distraction of the differences of Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Mexicans. They will talk about “Caucasians” not knowing Polish, Iranians, and English, all Caucasians, but are different peoples. Perhaps few want to talk about Jewish American Heritage Month because President Bush, a Republican, created it.
This year, Jewish peoples are celebrating 350 years in being in America (https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/haventohome/timeline/haven-timeline_0.html). My heartfelt congratulations to Jewish Americans!
Yet, many Jewish people need to reconcile their idealism with the facts and evidence. Writers of various backgrounds are pointing this out (https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2024/05/how_does_anyone_explain_liberal_jews.html If link does not work, try this one https://tinyurl.com/hup9pxs3).
Nebraska does not have many Jews but enough to warrant their recognition and appreciation (https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/nebraska-jewish-history).
But my most favorite Omaha Jewish person is Edward Rosewater, a Republican (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/8573204/edward-rosewater).
I am today old in learning about this.
