Nebraska State Senator Terrell McKinney has to be one of the dumbest Nebraska senators ever. The man has no sense of economics, particularly macroeconomics. His mind is full of pea-sized socialist ideas which fail Nebraska. In many ways, McKinney makes people miss Ernie Chambers.
If you want to know why I have such a strong libertarian streak in my thoughts, blame people like McKinney, a moron who gets into government and sells stupid ideas to stupid people.
“But he helped voters raise the minimum wage law”, you may say.
Yep, a stupid idea which cannibalizes other employee benefits such as overtime hours paying at time-and-a-half, destroying sick leave, cutting hours, reducing annual pay raises to as little as 10 cents a year, and eliminating bonus pay. In addition, such laws gave us the 10-dollar hamburger and other outrageous and inflationary-priced items and services as businesses struggled to pay higher minimum wages to often slacker, unproductive employees. People are actually moving from Nebraska to Iowa because the cost of living is lower there. The minimum wage has no positives. Abolish it!
Oops! I went off on a tangent. McKinney sponsored legislation called the “Poverty Elimination Action Plan Act” which passed. This legislation required Omaha and Lincoln to establish plans to eliminate poverty (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/efforts-launched-to-create-omaha-plan-to-eliminate-poverty-as-required-by-new-ne-law/).
Was the plan to teach financial responsibility and entrepreneurship to a malinformed population? Was the plan going to send out information about Say’s Law (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/says-law.asp), or books like Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged (https://www.atlassociety.org/books/atlas-shrugged) and Thomas Sowell’s Basic Economics (https://sowell.org/books/basic-economics) to people? Nope!
To quote the Nebraska Examiner, “Omaha’s plan is being coordinated by the Nebraska Center for Justice Research of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the City of Omaha Human Rights & Relations Department.” Neither of these organizations has any economist of merit, so just how are they going to eliminate poverty?
To make matters worse, all the members of the Nebraska Center for Justice Research team are white and none have any experience in economics (https://www.unomaha.edu/college-of-public-affairs-and-community-service/nebraska-center-for-justice-research/about-us/index.php). Omaha Human Rights board appears only marginally better (https://humanrights.cityofomaha.org/human-rights-and-relations-board-members). They are expected to help impoverished areas of Omaha where minorities are very prominent. Judging from their career histories, they appear to be set to provide a range of mental health services. I guess they presume minorities are all sick in the head. Sounds like white supremacy to me and caused by McKinney. Oh well.
The unicameral itself was very stupid bad idea. It took away all the representation from our conservative counties.
The only way to improve these peoples lots in life is to eliminate government. That is not going to even be discussed. What will be discussed is more threats of violence and theft against taxpayers. We really must start asking these people how their plan is implemented.? How is it paid for? What if someone does not "voluntarily" pay the taxes? Do you confiscate their property? Do you send men and women with guns to forcibly take the objectors money? Will those armed people be authorized to kidnap the violator? Will those people with guns be authorized to shoot, wound and murder?
I have found this type of questioning very very effective. I have a friend that is uber leftist. It really threw him off and broke his mental bubble. These people do not realize they are calling for violence when they propose these things that are paid with tax dollars. Hell most libertarians do not. He is now far less cocky around me because he knows I will call his call for violence out. No normal person likes being told they are advocating violence. WE will probably never convince people McKinney that have this Democrat Human ownership gene so deeply embeded, however the vast majority of people still do not believe in committing violence against another.
