Update: Two challenges to abortion petition (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/08/27/group-of-medical-pros-challenge-abortion-rights-ballot-measure-based-on-single-subject-rule/) and (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/08/28/lawsuit-asks-nebraska-supreme-court-to-intervene-and-stop-abortion-rights-ballot-petition/).
Dueling abortion initiatives will be on Nebraska ballots this November and there is bound to be some level of confusion. The Nebraska Catholic Conference is stepping up to provide clarity (https://www.lincolndiocese.org/op-ed/legislative-update/17998-buyer-beware-it-ll-be-worse-than-roe-v-wade).
They explain why you should support the Protect Women and Children initiative (https://necatholic.org/resources/understand-the-pro-life-ballot-proposal.html). Their site contains brochures you can download and print out or share with others. This initiative was fostered by medical doctors and would prevent abortion expansion.
However, the Protect the Right to Abortion initiative actually misleads women about abortion by failing to make crucial differences. The Nebraska Catholic Conference somewhat missed the details here, but to be fair, much of their information was produced months ago. They are concerned about the use of the word "viability" in this initiative but do not go into further details, but I will.
There are two common forms of surgical abortions: D & C, and D & E. The D & C refers to dilation and curettage and is done up to about the 15th week of pregnancy. There are various reasons for this procedure beyond abortion (https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/dilation-and-curettage/about/pac-20384910).
But D & E is a completely different matter (https://www.saintlukeskc.org/health-library/understanding-dilation-and-evacuation-de#). This is where the prenatal infant has to be crushed and torn from the womb and is done after about the 15th week of pregnancy. This is a complicated procedure with significantly more risks to the woman (https://www.uwmedicine.org/sites/stevie/files/2018-11/Care-After-Your-DE.pdf). This procedure is only used to "terminate a pregnancy".
The abortion industry is trying to convince women there is no difference between having an abortion and having a root canal on a tooth, but these are not comparable. The abortion industry wants an open-ended right to exploit women. This is why Feminists for Life started to inform women many years ago (https://www.feministsforlife.org/) and provide resources for women.
If people understood the D & E procedure, they would appreciate why it must be substantially restricted to the most difficult cases of pregnancy. Even a site like Pro-Femina makes detailed admissions as to what to expect (https://www.profemina.org/en-us/abortion) And provides a breakdown of the abortion methods (https://www.profemina.org/en-us/abortion/abortion-methods).
Notice the Pro-Femina information below. 52 percent of abortions worldwide are done by suction method and in the United State over 50 percent of medical abortions, not surgical.
My arguments against D & E are many but to those who defend abortion, why are you defending the most inhumane and most dangerous abortion procedure to women? Share this with your supposedly pro-choice friends and ask them, what about the difference between humane and inhumane abortion practices? Is this just a false argument? Or can an abortionist justify taking a baseball bat and hitting the baby in the head as it comes down the birth canal? Don’t worry about the damage the baseball bat causes the women. Who cares if she cannot walk again? The abortion is done and she had a right to it!
Yet, none of this discussion is the news media. The voters are left in the dark and more importantly, women are being left in the dark. The abortion industry has vast powers in hiding the facts to protect their industry and make money. They will create hysteria to obscure actual, important information. There are many women who had a simple abortion procedures but do not realize the suffering other women are encountering with more complex procedures.
Please share this with any women and girls you know. Please share with people who claim they are “pro-choice” as well as those who are pro-life.

The only medical issue that I'm aware of that absolutely requires the premature ending of a pregnancy before the child can survive being birthed is a tubal pregnancy.
In every other medical situation, the child can be brought to some level of viability if not fully to term, and it is better and safer for the health of the mother as well as the child to deliver a live baby under the supervision of a medical team that is committed to the care of both patients.
Also, most D&Cs are done after a pregnancy has already terminated, whether through a miscarriage or a live birth.
