Both political parties are biased on the topic of election integrity. When their candidate wins, there is no election fraud. When their candidate loses, they become paranoid about every aspect of an election. With the election process, they fear voter oppression or hidden ballots. Perhaps this is why election officials have a jaundice eye when challenged about election integrity.
I have come across my share of Nebraska Republicans who say they trust their election officials without providing sufficient reason or evidence. I personally believe Nebraska election officials became lazy about what other states were doing and what erosion was taking place regarding the election process. They neglected what a broader range of experts were recommending for election integrity.
I have given funds to numerous election integrity groups over the years because they provide an expert voice to the discussion. One such organization is the Heritage Foundation, which puts out this scorecard https://www.heritage.org/electionscorecard/index.html. They reviewed states’ election laws and Nebraska looks a bit sloppy as being close to the bottom (https://www.heritage.org/electionscorecard/pages/states/ne.html).
So how does Nebraska compare to neighboring states? Nebraska does not beat Wyoming, but not much difference.
Nebraska is beaten by Colorado
South Dakota puts on the pressure. Their tax system is better too.
Iowa and Kansas gang up on Nebraska too!
Oh but Iowa and Kansas can’t beat Missouri!
Nebraska will improve a little bit with the voter ID but there is a lot more to do on this issue. Republicans and conservatives need to stop putting their head in the sand and start looking at what other states are doing to preserve election integrity.
