First, congratulations to Aaron Sanford in becoming the editor of the Nebraska Examiner. I hope Cate Folsom enjoys her retirement.
Most of the Nebraska is in the dark as to how much State tax dollars are funding a totally dysfunctional school district. The Nebraska Examiner has followed the issue.
The Omaha Public School district, which covers about two-third of Omaha, continues to have drastically bad test scores (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/12/05/room-for-improvement-breaking-down-2023-24-nebraska-k-12-student-test-scores/). The “need for support” is a myth. The school district needs a sharp reduction of administration and the empowerment of teachers. The problem is a persistent struggle between the teachers’ union and the Nebraska legislature preventing any solution. The Omaha Public School district keeps demanding more money.
Yet the expense to taxpayers has been muzzled by politics and obfuscation. Omaha Public School district continue to demands more aid for their bad test results (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2024/11/08/gov-pillen-asks-nebraska-lawmakers-to-overhaul-school-aid-formula-in-2025/) to the tune of 317 million dollars in aid.
Please contact your Nebraska Senator and demand more reform. Change has to come. https://nebraskalegislature.gov/senators/senator_list.php
Ops is a joke and it has been for a long time.
Very good piece. I was pleased to share it on my Facebook page.
