Update: Trending Republican but by a trickle.
When I wrote the article on Matt Innis, I was a bit surprised by the response and optimism regarding his victory (https://andrewlsullivan.substack.com/p/rise-of-matt-innis). Supporters of Innis benefited from a switch of voters to the Republican Party. Yeah! But those who think this can be replicated in Douglas County need to deal with hard facts.
I have repeatedly told Douglas County area candidates the need to foster voter registration but they are reluctant to do so as it is expensive and does not provide tangible results for the candidate. I do not do the walking thing for politics because I live in a hostile neighborhood. Just take a look at what was done to my bench. (If you know anyone who can fix this, let know.)
People are being intimidated into voting and registering in certain ways so a lot of people are merely not registered to vote. If the candidates did some focus on nonpartisan voters and unregistered voters, it would help Republicans overall. Many people have moved and not re-registered as well. However, most candidates rightly think this is an excessive expense to their campaign, yet this has great consequences for Republicans in not gaining new voters. Democrats hold the voter registration advantage in Douglas County and this needs to be reversed.
If you are part of any Republican candidate campaign, take the initiative to look for those who are not registered or non-partisan and ask them: why they are not Republican. I realize campaigns do not want to expend a lot of money on such efforts but the volunteers would learn and acquire much information about difficult districts to win over. This means such efforts have to come from determined volunteers. Does Douglas County have such volunteers?
The people in Douglas and District 2 are going to put another democrat in congress. This time he/she will be a real democrat with party credentials they no longer need Bacon to do their work so he will be curbed this cycle as they can now be open about being a democrat. No more democrats dressed in republican drag like bacon. Of course the whole nebraska delegation are fake Republicans. Ricketts is probably as close as we have to a republican, flood isn't, wef/ Klaus schwad toady Fischer isn't, and Smith is invisible
