Update, 88 Tactical offers a course to address school mass shootings. (https://88tactical.com/training-courses-omaha/school-safe/)
As you may have heard, anti-gun and anti-police activists (mostly white Lincoln women) attacked a deal between the Omaha Police Department and 88 Tactical Gun Range (https://88tactical.com/). The Police are trying to get rid of outdated protection gear and in return, receive expensive gun accessories which are often out of stock in the current economy. (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2022/07/18/anti-gun-violence-group-calls-on-omaha-city-council-to-reject-police-gear-swap-with-gun-store/)
The Lincoln-based group Seeing Red took issue with the deal and claimed the deal was unfair and also accused 88 Tactical of being a NAZI organization. (https://seeingrednebraska.com/fascism/the-upcoming-swap-between-omaha-police-and-the-definitely-not-nazi-gun-range/
Melody Vaccaro of the gun control group Nebraskans Against Gun Violence (https://nebraskansagainstgunviolence.com/) made bogus estimates of what was involved in the deal. Regarding the helmets and armor, these types of items degrade quickly and expire and are not worth nearly the amount Vaccaro claims. Does she realize what stuff is thrown at the police in wearing such gear? Think tear gas, feces, urine, and rocks. Does she not understand what warranties, insurance, and regulations require of such equipment? Also, when the Omaha Police Department bought the equipment, they likely received a deal for buying in bulk instead of singular purchase, so there are a lot uncomparables.
The real action of these activists was to defund the police. 88 Tactical was ready to provide the Omaha Police with thousands of dollars in firearm accessories. Seeing Red says the gun accessories amounted to “$2550 of stupid gun shit”. They estimated Glock 17 magazines at $15 but these items sell for $30 and are often sold out such as this site shows (https://rockeybrass.com/?s=Glock+17+magazines) but I guess the writer Amanda was just pulling numbers off someone’s Instagram account. Honestly, the firearm accessories are more likely $5,000 or more.
No matter what these organizations say, they kept Omaha Police Officers from receiving the equipment they need to do their job at an affordable price. These organizations and their followers suffer from hoplophobia. These Lincoln organizations, Seeing Red and Nebraskans Against Gun Violence, are engaged in a charade. Omaha should not fall for it.
Please contact your Omaha City Council member and encourage the deal to go through. See https://citycouncil.cityofomaha.org/council-members
Also, for those who are receiving their information from Facebook and Twitter, and other mainstream social media, you are receiving biased information due to the policies embedded in such programs. Many gun rights activists do not use Facebook and Twitter because their accounts are frequently suspended.
