Republican President Ford Was Right

Those of us old enough to remember can tell you the story as to how the Watergate Hearings dominated the television news and monopolized our lives while dividing our Nation. I was but a boy, but my routine of watching afternoon TV cartoons was disrupted by these hearings and my Mother’s constant “shhh”. With the television broadcasting the Watergate Hearings, policy at home became “children are to be seen, not heard“.

With Nixon’s resignation, Omaha-born Gerald Ford (https://www.fordlibrarymuseum.gov/avproj/hseries/homes.asp) became President. Politically, he probably should have done nothing until after the election, but he knew all too well, why feed division and angst among the public when it only brings people down and brings few positive results? He pardoned Nixon and to this day, there are questions about the timing or whether or not he was right. However, with time, Ford’s decision is now seen as a very wise decision (https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/the-nixon-pardon-in-retrospect).

To Democrats reading this, we get it. You do not like Donald Trump. As much as we want to mention Trump was a great supporter of Democrat President Bill Clinton, we know Trump’s warts, wrinkles, and flatulence displease you. However, half of the allegations against Trump are flat-out false or are severe distortions. The other half of the allegations accuse Trump of doing things of which Democrats do regularly with impunity.

Yet, the use of the January 6 Committee serves no purpose but to divide the Nation along contradictory narratives and distracts greatly from the issues the Nation must address such as inflation, and a growing Federal debt. I call for an end to this Committee. Many people want to leave the 2020 election behind us, but these hearings do the exact opposite. The Committee serves no purpose. Democrats, do you even notice the Committee is turning Trump into a martyr?

At the same time, I call upon the US Justice Department to drop all charges against January 6 defendants. I also call upon President Joe Biden to pardon those who have already been charged and sentenced. This is the right thing to do. If you disagree, ask yourself: do mercy and forgiveness have any meaning or value?

And one other matter needs to be addressed. The time has come for all Americans to understand how COVID upended our election processes, ruined integrity, and opened up new vulnerabilities to our election systems.

I am not just wary of election fraud deniers. I am fatigued by the general lack of concern. The news media fails to understand the vote count for Nebraska’s Secretary of State where Bob Evnen could only win by plurality, not majority. There are numerous prominent Republicans of various opinions defending Evnen, but he needed to do more. Evnen merely took the most ridiculous allegations about the election, debunked them, and used them as a broad brush to prevent any attention being drawn to the obvious flaws of the same election.

Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse has made a point of obtaining cameras to cover ballot drop boxes, but if these cameras are necessary, why have such boxes at all? Is he aware, there are ways to pour solvents into such boxes which would dissolve the ink, making the ballots worthless? Hey, if you want to screw up an election, go to a ballot box in the most partisan areas of the City and mess up the box.
