Tom Becka, a pundit at Fox KPTM 42, claims the news department is closing on May 12 (https://twitter.com/TomBecka/status/1651953956204040193). I have not heard further details as to why. However, this comes at a very odd time when local media is so important.
The Omaha City Council member Vinney Palermo has been charged with crimes and is held in jail. A news report noticed he changed his Facebook page which referenced gangsters (https://plattevalley.newschannelnebraska.com/story/48844333/palermos-gangster-fb-page-replaced).
Senator Merv Riepe backs out of his own pro-life bill in spite of having been backed by the Republican party (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2023/04/28/my-position-hasnt-changed-says-senator-who-refused-vote-for-six-week-heartbeat-abortion-bill/).
Now, progressive Senator Megan Hunt has stated she has left the Democrat Party and become independent. To be blunt, I think all state senators should be registered nonpartisan once elected (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/prominent-progressive-nebraska-lawmaker-leaves-democratic-party/). However, her criticisms of the news media regarding the workings of the nonpartisan Unicameral are valid.
The legacy media is falling apart. The Omaha World-Herald occasionally does not publish the Public Pulse. Trip Reynolds, a human resources specialist, has noticed the mainstream news media bypasses the perspectives of Black people. He should know as he is a Black man who supported Donald Trump. He writes on his own blog (http://tripoetry.com/editorials.htm). Who knew? His views are a bit contrarian but he does present facts. He also runs the Black Perspective News (https://theblacknewsperspective.com/). See his interview below:
Anyways, seeking information will become more important and crucial in finding out what is going on.
I think the most interesting take-away from the article about Hunt is that she grew up in a Conservative family. I.e., She KNOWS better--or she should. And yet, here she is pushing the absolutely radical and destructive things that she's pushing.
That really grieves me. I've already been praying some that God will intervene with her. I plan to pray that even harder.
As for Riepe, why did he lie to voters about who he really is? Why did he cosponsor this pro-life bill if he wasn't going to vote for it? What is his problem? Seriously?
I do not believe that compromising with him would lead to a better result. Once he's moved the goalposts once, why should anyone trust him not to keep moving them? His district would do better to recall and replace him ASAP.
