First, this article is not revisionist history or an apology for Hitler, although I can fully understand how some may view this article as “well, what about all the great things Hitler did?” type article. It is not. However, many have taken the Holocaust as an excuse to demonize German people or present other faulty biases. What I propose is a clearer understanding of the timeline from when Hitler was the hero to the people but descended into a drug-addicted, evil mad man.
On January 30, 1933, Hitler became Chancellor of Germany but there was nothing too extraordinary about him at the time to make him the arch-nemesis of evil of every single combative argument we have today. Well, not yet.
The change and descent into deep evil became clear on November 9 and 10 of 1938 when Nazis attacked Jewish shops by breaking the windows. On this day, German civilization died. German residents were no longer equal within the law. A government of, by, and for the people came to an end. Their life, liberty and property was at risk. Yet, this was not as dire as many think but a step down from civilization.
By 1939, Hitler had 6 concentration camps holding over 21,000 prisoners, mostly political opponents and especially Communists (http://www.camps.bbk.ac.uk/overview.html).
The full-throttled evil unleashed when Hitler decided to invade Poland on September 1, 1939. Hitler provided soldiers with meth (https://warontherocks.com/2016/12/high-times-with-narcotized-nazi-warfare/ and https://www.timesofisrael.com/hitler-fueled-nazi-troops-with-crystal-meth-new-book-claims/). The drug made the killing of people easier and more intense. Many more concentration camps would be built and millions would die.
Schindler’s List makes a point of showing Polish people being anti-Semetic, but what is forgotten: Nazis considered Polish people to be inferior and expelled them (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Poles_by_Nazi_Germany). By the end of the war, six million Polish people died, half being Jewish people (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties_of_Poland). This is partly why I say “white supremacy” and “white nationalism” are vastly insignificant to the point of being nonexistant. Poland had a vibrant culture with Jewish people, but it was eviscerated by a horrendous supposed Aryan ideology.
What tires me is the persistent effort to “make Hitler relevant again” without respect to the history within. Hitler died April 30 1945, just a few short days of 80 years ago, yet his actions still captivate people. I just wish there was more accuracy as to what happened, how, and why, so the terms “never again” have valuable meaning.
Where on that timeline was Mein Kaumf written? Because everything Hitler planned to do (and carried out) was expressly discussed in Mein Kaumf.
In fact, there was a official, sanitized English version published, and a pirated English translation, and Hitler actually went to court to get the pirated English translation removed from print because it more accurately translated everything he said, and warned that he was an incredibly dangerous person and no one to be trusted.
Interesting brief article.
I was caught by the reference to the German soldiers being doped up on amphetamines, it was suggested to have been routine by many other sources. I don't know of any similar use by Allied forces during WWII.
Today they are readily prescribed to our youth which don't have adequate attention span.
The link to the Wikipedia article on the Polish purge is also especially interesting. I can't stop thinking about the US southern border being similar to Germany's eastern border with Poland. 1938/2025.
