The Biography of Dr. Thompson, Titus, and Jaboi
Professor, City Council member, Musician, Author and More
Dr. Franklin Thompson has been many things. He is a professor at the University of Nebraska in Omaha and has been an Omaha City Council member. The term Renaissance man fits him well and is noble to his middle name Titus.
I first encountered him as his constituent and had numerous interactions with him. I think he sized me up pretty quickly as a hard-hat conservative. Anyways, I have advocated that young people should read biographies as does Thompson. Too often, youth find the expectations and the demands of the world to be harsh and feel, with a map in hand, there is no sense of clear direction.
A mentor can console and advise as much as they want with words like “keep trying”, “let it go”, ”have patience”, “it will pass”, and “you can do this”. But to so many young people the burdens, obstacles, and trials appear to be fully unique for no one to understand and the challenges too overbearing. Such consoling words are received the way a scoop of ice cream slips off the cone and onto the pavement. The ice cream melts and ants and bees eat it away. The damage seems so great and irreversible, so the consoling words seem so meaningless.
Biographies are different. Biographies help people, particularly young people, to understand the unique challenges people face and how to overcome them. I have read many biographies from Malcolm X to Nathan Bedford Forrest, and so forth and was stirred by how people overcame obstacles and turned them into opportunities, prosperity and success. The young face many difficulties. The young people fight to carve out a space in this world and find many - a - traps and obstacles to overcome. Full fruition and understanding of purpose often comes with much age.
But Thompson is not content with telling people to read biographies. He was not going to let the hounds of "I should have”, "I could have", and "I would have", get in his way. He has decided, and rightly so, to write out his own story and has released it as a book: “Confessions of Murphy’s Law Child”. The book and other information on Thompson is at: https://www.omahachangeagent.com/
I suspect, hope, think, perhaps if the book moves people, the book will be bought in bulk to place on school curriculums for many students to read. He has not only something to say but much to contribute to the community with inspiration. I say this before I even have the book. This is how much confidence I have in Thompson. Besides, Thompson has an alias: Jaboi, who does music. So if the book does not work out, perhaps his music will!
