I am making many statements in this very long posting without much reference. My information is based on my knowledge of medical science and am using what the following books and website have fostered but I have more sources.

Trump has been a disrupter but he was merely a conservative Democrat from the 1990s pushed out by years of leftist politics. Now he was ripping up the Democrat Party and saying what needed to be said. Trump was not populism but a blue collar abandonment of a corrupt Democrat Party. There are plenty of former Democrats to state so. However, nothing could bring to bear the weakness of US institutions as COVID did.
I talked to my friends and I found us starting to parse our words and being more nuanced to avoid arguments, all because of COVID. So, here, I am going to lay out my basic COVID arguments. A few years of COVID have alternated discussions of freedom, and death, thus a review is warranted.
The US became stuck in a scenario where those with the ability to make decisions, did not have the knowledge or data. Those with the knowledge or data had no means to make decisions. Thomas Sowell wrote a book about such conflict over 40 years ago in his book, Knowledge and Decisions. Exceptionally smart leaders, like Governors Pete Ricketts and Ron DeSantis, focused on the data, not the fear and intimidation. By doing so, they delivered results. (https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/04/22/nebraska-covid-response-pete-ricketts-00026993).
Unfortunately, Dr. Faucci, who had presided over the AIDS crisis with horrendous results decades before, was more interested in feeding fear. Many people crave fear because it gives them purpose and meaning in an empty life. An atheistic society was only interested in immortality and avoiding death so they bought the fear at full price whether it waa AIDS or COVID. Yet religion has taught us of our own demise and an afterlife and a need for courage. Keep in mind, there is no vaccine for AIDS, yet the crisis abated. So of COVID? Early, the data showed the elderly were most at risk by far. Most people could get sick and recover, but for those of advanced age (over 85), COVID was very deadly. Modern medicine had allowed people of fragile health to live long lives and COVID had arrived to unravel such progress. Yet, everyone was punished with fear, lockdowns and masks.
COVID is an airborne virus. Best way to slow the spread is to reduce the sizes of meeting places, not social distancing or masks. However, the government embraced lockdowns and other absurd procedures while ignoring clear evidence. For example, people were told, if they felt sick: to rest, take Tylenol for fever, and drink water. Stupid move as this only treats symptoms. There are easily over two dozen therapeutics which can help reduce the severity of COVID if applied when symptoms first appear. These treatments are not perfect but disrupt virus production and can keep people out of hospitals.
Government officials, news media and social media would not tolerate such discussion. Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin were derided but these were only part of a regimen of medications used to address COVID (https://www.ketv.com/article/omaha-doctor-touts-use-of-ivermectin-for-covid-19-treatment/37148651).Oddly enough, those who were vaccinated and ended up with COVID would actually receive these other treatments. Many people could have avoided death and the hospital if these therapeutics had been promoted. Fortunately, Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson came to the defense of doctors offering therapeutics. More disturbing is how medical authorities were ignoring the role of vitamin D deficiencies. So many specialists were ignorant about immunology. Our bodies need vitamin D to support our immune systems, yet we do not receive much vitamin D in our diets and we need more of it as we age. (This is why vitamin D, a fat soluble vitamin, is fortified in milk, which often has 2 percent fat.) We obtain most vitamin D from the sun but when the sun goes south for the winter, the days grow short and the nights grow long, and people come inside, guess what? You have many people with weak immune systems in close contact with others of the same disposition and viruses spread. So, get your vitamin D checked when you visit your doctor and determine how much vitamin D you need.
Masks are the worst thing ever advocated in confronting an airborne virus. The idiots who came up with this idea should spend a lifetime in prison for all the emotional damage they have done to our children. Anyone who has ever used a microscope knows viruses are extremely small. COVID viruses will go right through your mask, and on the heat of your breath, go to the ceiling, cool down,
descend and infect other people. Viruses cannot survive in sunlight and are easily blown away by the wind. Think about this when you're in a restroom or other room with no windows and the door is closed. Omaha City Council members Brinker Harding, Aimee Melton and Don Rowe displayed great courage in opposing the Douglas County Health Director on masks.
Oh, I have had to argue with the best doctors in Omaha on masks. “But Andrew, it stops spittal”. Sigh, so do handkerchiefs. Try using one! “But surgeons use them”. Sigh, because they are taking a knife to your body and opening it up and they have many pathogens which could infect your insides, but the mask will most likely prevent their chewing gum from landing in you. Who wants to hear, “Hey, we have to take you back into surgery again to remove my filthy chewing gum which is now infecting you.”? Still believe masks work against an airborne virus? I use to think abortion discussions were the most polarizing until I got involved with vaccination arguments. Yes, polio, smallpox, chicken pox and measles can be prevented with inoculating vaccines. Yet most of these diseases (but not measles) are transmitted by oral/fecal transmission. Yep, putting poop in your mouth can make you sick! This is why there is a worldwide effort to improve sanitation, even in Omaha (https://omahacso.com/). As sanitation improves, the risks of many of these viruses become minimal to nonexistent.
Yes, we mandate children to have vaccination if attending a school, but this is largely in part because children cannot make decisions for themselves and because schools risk being shut down by excessive illnesses. However, such mandates are a bit excessive, if not archaic. Just because a handful of children have parents who object to vaccines, they pose minimal risk to everyone else. Perhaps vaccinations can be required for measles as it can shut down a school quickly with an outbreak or perhaps mumps which can make post-puberty males sterile, but reasonable accommodations should be made for children whose parents object to vaccination.
People are furious in hearing me say such things, but think it through. Vaccination should be done tactically and strategically. Right now, there are places where there are outbreaks of hepatitis among children (https://www.al.com/news/2022/05/hepatitis-outbreak-in-children-cdc-on-symptoms-parents-should-look-for.html). In such areas, it makes sense to get your child vaccinated, but do you really think Nebraska should mandate such vaccination for everyone? No, as it is unnecessary. Mandates did not get rid of smallpox. Strategy did. (https://www.history.com/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-smallpox)
So what of the COVID shots? Vaccines take time to develop which is why the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was canned as it needed further development. As for the other COVID shots, these are mRNA therapeutics, but not inoculating vaccines. The mRNA shot affect won’t last very long. Since the mRNA was given away for free by virtually anonymous clinics, few saw reason to object. Had people been charged $10 for the mRNA shot and had been required to go to their physician for it, I suspect people would have asked a lot more questions about the necessity of these shots. But, when something is free and fear is in the air, what can you expect but exploitation and tyranny.
If you have had these shots, you should still get your vitamin D level checked. The mRNA shot is still dependent on a strong immune system. Also, you should ask your doctor how they will treat you if you do still get COVID which is called a breakthrough case. Nearly 10 percent of people receiving COVID shots will eventually come down with COVID. (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/1205c60366ba43719a59225ec62e31b5/page/Breakthroughs/). Defending freedom and health has become a bit more complicated.
