Update: One meme says it all which has been edited for profanity.
By now, you have probably read a decent amount of articles or television about the Department of Government Efficiency, run by Elon Musk. The fallout from the DOGE team has been hilarious, yet a bit sad. Fun fact: did you know DOGE actually means Do Only Good Everyday? Anyways…..
Nebraska Examiner has held a good standard in covering the matter. Zach Wendling covered how far-left State Senators reacted (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/nebraska-federal-delegation-applauds-musk-doge-some-state-senators-call-for-oversight/). At the same, Paul Hammel, who has written for other papers, kept the topic relevant by focusing on the local and did a story on Luke Farritor (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/lincoln-man-reportedly-working-on-elon-musk-doge-government-efficiency-project/).
Farritor is at the cutting edge of using AI technology as he used such techonology to read ancient burnt scrolls! He explains:
Just as Grammerly helps check your spelling, grammar and makes suggestions, the technology to audit an immense amount of data for fraud is possible, yet this is not why people are upset.
Generations have grown up thinking government is suppose to operate like a charity with a bottomless pit of funds to spend. They presumed all these government agencies were operating fairly within in the law, but this is not true. We are told the House of Representatives control the ‘purse”, but the purse is long gone, as well is the cash. The Government Accountability Office fails to live up to the name. But again, this is not the controversy.
Do you know how DOGE was created? President Obama created it with an Executive Order in 2014 and called the organization the United States Digital Services (https://www.tpr.org/government-politics/2025-02-05/what-is-the-department-of-government-efficiency-or-doge). Trump, who has been festering for four years about “shoulda, coulda, woulda”, already formulated what he wanted to do. Upon becoming President again, he signed an Executive Order renaming the organization to the now knon D.O.G.E.
But this is not all. USAID actually is United States Agency for International Development. So the acronym itself causes issues about what the mission is of this organization. Why did the Omaha chapter of the Luthern Family Services receive funds from USAID being in the United States (https://andrewlsullivan.substack.com/p/lutheran-family-services-farts)? To add to the idiocy, USAID was created by Executive Order by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Agency_for_International_Development). USAID is a product of the Cold War which ended in 1989. For decades, people from across the political spectrum have criticized the organization for waste and what it chooses to fund.
Some will complain, Israel receives a lot of money from the US, but in part, this is because in the United States, progressives support opponents of Israel such as Senator Megan Hunt.
For decades, Libertarians and conservatives have been critical of Executive Orders expanding the role of the Federal Government. The reason USAID has come under scrutiny is they were a sieve for bad spending and also complained about Trump’s Executive Orders the most. But Trump is doing something different with Executive Orders: reducing the role of the Federal Government.
Faced with a 36 trillion dollars debt, a 2 trillion dollars deficit, and 1 trillion dollars being paid on interest on the debt, Trump is going to act on it, and he has 8 decades of Executive Orders which he has the power to remove. USAID is not even the first act. It is a teaser trailer.
My advice for Omaha area conservatives is to call Congressman Bacon, not just once but twice, telling him you support DOGE and Elon Musk in fighting corruption and fraud.
