We were warned about Bacon the first time he ran.

I'm glad that Sasse is no longer representing us. I wish none of the others were either. They apparently can't do math or don't care about how expensive their bad decision-making is, and how much it's costing the rest of us.

Sasse was never a problem. He simply was not able to understand the pivot in politics which is why he had to leave.

I regret that I have to take issue with you on this--because at first, we really did like Sasse. But what he ran on and how he actually used his time in office were poles apart.

Completely aside from his trip down the rabbit hole of extreme Trump Derangement Syndrome, he took campaign money from a wealthy and unscrupulous financier who later forced a major western Nebraskan business (Cabela's) to sell out to a competitor which promptly shut down the main store location, financially devastating the town (Sidney) that had supported and built the business into a huge success and depended on the income from that business.

Sasse never apologized for this entanglement or made any attempt at making amends or setting things right. He also apparently made no effort to rebuke this "friend" either. He appears to have only cared about himself and padding his own bank account.

You fell for the media take on him, while ignoring what he actually did. He was on the Agricultural Committee but everyone knew his skills were best fit for the Judiciary Committee so he changed committees. This upset the World Herald and other Nebraskans, but it was the best option for conservatives. Sasse was able to assist Trump in putting honest conservative judges in to office, including the Supreme Court.

Andrew, it would have been fairly easy for Sasse to repudiate the contribution he received from this unscrupulous man. It may not have done much to rescue Cabela's or Sidney--but I would have liked and respected him a lot more if he had.

Everyone is a mix of their better choices and their worse flaws, including Sasse.

It's nice that he helped put all of those conservative judges into office (if they really are that), but as my son has pointed out more than once, look who was involved in that effort (i.e., the incredibly corrupt McConnell). Are those judges really there to promote the cause of freedom or are they there to protect the lifestyles and padded bank accounts of the rich and powerful?

Sure, they'll throw us bones from time to time, but--how will they rule when it really matters?

FWIW, I stopped trusting the greater majority of the GOP well before COVID. After their abysmal showing during COVID, my trust index for most of them is in the negative digits.
